All students should be covered by a health insurance plan that provides a wide range of benefits at a reasonable cost. The state of Florida requires international students to have health insurance coverage that meets the state’s specific criteria if the student is enrolled in a plan from their home country or if they prefer to subscribe to a plan available in the United States.
UCF Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan
The UCF Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan is the only plan reviewed and approved by UCF officials to assure it meets the State of Florida requirements for international students and provides substantial benefits at a reasonable cost. The Plan is designed to encourage students to use the on-campus Health Center because charges for most services are paid by the Plan. This saves students money by not having to go off campus for routine care where co-pays and deductibles require additional out-of-pocket expenses.
All enrolled international students are required to either purchase this plan or provide proof of comparable coverage in another plan. International students are advised not to choose a plan just because it is less expensive than the UCF-approved plan. Be sure another plan meets both your needs and risks and also meets the State of Florida requirements.

Beginning Fall 2009 semester, the College of Graduate Studies will provide health insurance coverage for all university fellows and graduate assistants with appointments totaling 20 hours per week. Health insurance coverage is just one of many ways that UCF is supporting excellence in graduate education and training.
Full annual coverage will be provided in two separate time periods. Students with qualifying assistantships and fellowships in the fall term will receive fall coverage, running from August 15 through December 31. Students with qualifying assistantships and fellowships in the spring term will receive coverage for the remainder of the year, running from January 1 through August 14. Students with qualifying assistantship or fellowship only in summer term will receive summer coverage, running from May 1 through August 14.
All qualifying assistantship students must accept or decline the health insurance coverage by completing the Graduate Student Health Insuance Form at the time that they sign their Assistantship Agreements (during the assistantship hiring process). University fellowship students will be contacted by the College of Graduate Studies Fellowships office with instructions for completing the Health Insurance Form.
Communications from the College of Graduate Studies and the health insurance company will be sent to the student's e-mail address and mailing address in the university records. Students who anticipate receiving health insurance coverage due to their assistantship or fellowship are advised to keep their contact information (preferred e-mail address and mailing address) current at myUCF (my.ucf.edu).
